Hola amig@s fintech,

This week, two of Latin America's biggest fintechs made their apps smarter, just not in the same way. Mercado Pago's AI assistant, Mago, became a full "personal banker": it now simulates investments, flags fraud, and pays bills from a photo of the invoice. PicPay took a more cautious route, integrating Claude so customers can ask about balances and bills in plain language instead of navigating menus. An a16z partner argued in an interview that the AI race increasingly comes down to knowing what people want and what's worth building. Something to keep in mind as the region finds out whether customers just want to ask AI about their money, or actually let it handle it.

Enjoy the read.
