Hola amig@s fintech,
Latin America isn't behind Europe or the US, it's solving different problems entirely. That's our "quote of the week." Those problems include cash dependency that refuses to disappear, financial ecosystems fragmented across banks, fintechs and wallets that don't talk to each other, and, as we discussed on September 3rd, a financial inclusion problem that goes deeper than opening accounts. In that edition, we noted that millions across the region end up banked on paper and locked out of credit in practice. Seen that way, an instant payment in the region isn't really about speed, it's about giving someone with no bank account and no credit history a digital tool as easy to use as the cash in their pocket.
While we sit with that, plenty of other interesting things happened this week. Revolut secured a full banking license in Colombia, Kapital, the Mexican B2B fintech, raised $125 million to expand its AI platform, and Inter, the Brazilian digital bank, landed in Argentina with direct access to US stocks and Treasury bonds from a single app.
Enjoy the read,
